Matisyahu strays too far from genre on new EP

It’s not that Matisyahu or his cast of bandmates are inherently bad musicians. In fact, that’s pretty far from the case. Matisyahu’s sometimes hard-to-find first album, Shake of the Dust…Arise, is notable for some truly novel moments and at representing a time in the Hasidic-Jewish reggae artist’s career when his lyrics and unique image didn’t feel tired or gimmicky.

But it’s been a solid live album, a mainstream LP that embraced syrupy production and finally a questionable remix-EP since then, and Shattered doesn’t suggest Matisyahu is going to return to that more hypnotic reggae sound. Instead, he just keeps pumping out the pop and not the well thought-out kind. These four new tracks, namely the likely single candidate “So Hi, So Lo,” are overproduced and feel dubiously canned. And who says “So Lo” and honestly expects success?

Finally, customers traveling on American Airline’sBoeing 767-200 aircraft are now able to connect to the internet and access complete coast-to-coast coverage on flights between New York and San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles, and New York and Miami.

“Aircell’s Gogo will be available to customers as a fee-based service in all cabins. Aircell will charge $12.95 on flights more than three hours, which include American’s Boeing 767-200 flights. Each paid Gogo session includes full Internet access. Cell phone and Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) services are not available.” Read more

United Airlines will launch non-stop flights October 26 between Washington Dulles and Dubai, and it has come out with introductory sale fares from several cities, starting at $1,068 roundtrip economy from New York. Roundtrip fares from other cities include $1,086 from Boston, $1,148 from Chicago, $1,104 from Washington D.C., and $1,220 from San Francisco. Government taxes are extra. Fares must be purchased by September 15 for outbound travel from October 26-December 11 or December 25-31.

Once again Airlines are cutting down to save fuel. MSNBC reports that Jazz a regional airline of Air Canada has announced in order to save fuel from the weight it is going to remove life vests from its flights. Jazz passengers will be able to use their seat cushions as floating devices in case of an emergency. Jazz does not fly over the ocean, all flights are transcontinental and fly 50 miles from shore on all of their 880 daily flights to 85 destinations.

The legendary Plaza Hotel in New York will reopen March 1, 2008 after a two year remodeling worth $400 million. The hotel will still keep its well known white clove service and it will return with a new contemporary flare.
