Flash Earth image of Stowe ski area

I recently came across a web site where you can quickly compare the high altitude aerial photography available from Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, Ask.com and NASA. It’s called Flash Earth and it’s a free service.

A quick check showed that Yahoo had the best looking photography of Stowe and I liked the Microsoft version which had labels of such landmarks as Mount Mansfield.

There are two events in Stowe this weekend. The Stowe Foliage Art and Craft Festival is a high quality event attended by 185 artists and artisans who were chosen from a very large pool of applicants. These participants are the best in this part of the country and they will be displaying paintings, pottery, blown glass, photography, furniture, clothing, and weavings.

The leaves started to change here about a week and a half ago when we had a short cold snap. I would guess about ten percent of the leaves in my area have changed so far. I think this weekend should be pretty good for color especially at the higher elevations and in the northern part of Vermont about a hour’s drive from us.

Our inn has been fully booked this coming weekend and the next. You will find that is true of virtually all lodging places in the northern half of the state. However, weekdays are only partially booked so you should be able to find a room if you can take a day or two off from work. We are about half booked for the second weekend in October but that will be filling in soon.

The beautiful Round Barn, Waitsfield VT

The Inn at the Round Barn Farm is one of the top lodging and restaurant facilities in Vermont. It is a place I would put on my itinerary if I were traveling here. You will find it on East Warren Road outside the town of Waitsfield in the north central part of the state.

Another good reason to visit this time of year is to see the annual Art in the Round Barn show which opened today and runs through October 8. This juried show presents the works of some of the best artists in New England.
