Airfarewatchdog.com: Top Tips For Flying With Kids

Airfarewatchdog.comhas asked its travelers on tips of how to keep kids happy on long flights. Below are the top 15 that Airfarewatchdog.com has posted.

1. Have a discussion on expected behavior prior to the trip, as well as a little refresher before boarding.

2. A bag stuffed with essential treats. In our case, that would be Teddy Grahams.

3. Pack plenty of books, stickers, paper, crayons, magazines, and anything else that can be read, or incorporated into an easy mess-free craft project. Remember, obviously, no scissors.

4. Fresh out of craft ideas? Here’s an easy one! Bring a fine point Sharpie marker and allow your children to - just this once - add moustaches to all the faces in the in-flight magazine. Or blackened teeth. Or both! Hey, go wild (quietly, and to yourself)!

February to be declared Reggae Month, says Grange

The Government is to declare February Reggae Month, minister of information, culture, youth and sports, Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange, told guests at the launch of the Reggae Academy Awards last Tuesday at the Hilton Kingston Hotel.

“I really want to say to you that the Government will be announcing, at the highest level, a declaration of February as Reggae Month,” Grange said. “And it will be announced and presented in a manner that will impact not only in Jamaica but across the world.”

If You Are Flying During Your Vacation to Vermont

Here is a link to a helpful website called Ellipses. After the airplane scares last week, airline travel was disrupted but quickly got back to normal according to some of our guests.

The Ellipses web site is a good one to check occasionally to see what’s going on in travel. Chris also writes about car rental companies from time to time and presents information you should definitely know.

Excellent Airfare Search Service

Excellent Airfare Search Service

I have found an airfare search engine site that is highly impressive and a very welcome new approach to finding a flight. Farecast is an independent web site you can use to research airline fares between 75 US cities. It’s still in Beta (test) form but looks to be working fine with only a couple of minor bugs I experienced.

This is not an online booking site like Expedia. It’s more of a search engine specifically for airline flights. However, there are links directly to each airline’s web site reservation page so you can book directly with the airline. In case you are not aware, booking flights online will save you money compared to calling the airlines and booking with one of their agents.

Wind Conditions May Slow Ski Areas - If Anyone Can Even Get to Them

In addition to the two feet of snow we have had today (the storm gained enough strength to be categorized this afternoon as a blizzard), winds are very strong tonight and may hamper lift operations at the ski areas tomorrow too. However, even getting to VT may prove to be too much of a challenge anyway.

This is the biggest snow storm I have ever been through. I would imagine it will take the better part of tomorrow to get the roads plowed and to get Burlington airport open. The winds are pushing the snow around so much that even if the roads are plowed, they drift back over soon after.

Roads Getting Cleared Soon

The snow plows have been at work all night and it looks like major roads should be in decent shape by mid-day today. There will be some exceptions no doubt and a few spots may see some drifting but overall, travel should be basically fine.

The Burlington airport is open but there are no flights to Philadelphia or LaGuardia because those airports are closed.
