The changing face of dancehall fashion

Ever stopped to think how the style of dressing in the dancehall has changed over the last 30 or 40 years? Well, I certainly have.

Gone are the bell-bottomed pants, big-heeled shoes and Afro hairstyles worn by both sexes. The hairstyle was no doubt influenced by the Black Power Movement of the ’60s and the ‘Black is Beautiful’ slogan.

Milk shines at all-white bash

It was yet another all-white affair when patrons hit the Asylum Night Club in Kingston last Wednesday night to celebrate with Amelia ‘Milk’ Sewell on her birthday. Milk, a deejay and host for the video countdown on CVM’s E-Strip, held her all-white celebrity birthday bash, Milky Way, and everyone was invited to share the moment. It was rather ironic, though, that while this all-white theme was ’strictly enforced’ as the flier said, the birthday girl was clad in gold. The television princess looked stunning as she greeted her guests with white cotton candy as they entered the club.

‘Doc’ medicates Montego Bay musically

Dancehall fans at the Aqua Beach Park, in Montego Bay, got a house call from the Doctor, Beenie Man, early Saturday morning, and, in a mere half hour, he had properly diagnosed, medicated and left the patrons in a state of musical wellness. Beenie Man, the STAR’s Artiste of the Month, actually started the day not feeling well and at one point it was feared that he might not have made the trip for the special autograph signing session and charity concert. However, he did not disappoint.
